Anointing of the Sick

Illness and suffering have always been among the gravest problems confronted in human life. In illness, man experiences his powerlessness, his limitations, and his finitude. Every illness can make us glimpse death.

Who Can Be Anointed?

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick has as its purpose the conferral of a special grace on the Christian experiencing the difficulties inherent in the condition of grave illness or old age. The proper time for receiving this holy anointing has certainly arrived when the believer begins to be in danger of death because of illness or old age. Each time a Christian falls seriously ill, he may receive the Anointing of the Sick; and also if the illness worsens.

How To Schedule

Only priests can give the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, using oil blessed by the bishop. Contact your parish pastor to administer the sacrament by calling the parish office.  This sacrament is scheduled quarterly in a group setting in church.  Watch for an announcement in the bulletin, on the calendar, or call the parish office. The group service includes Mass and  Anointing.
